A little Maqui added to the water Kefir

Another delicious use for Maqui Berry Powder adding it to the water Kefir.

Have you heard of it? Many people I’ve spoken to have heard of milk Kefir but not it’s friendly cousin that doesn’t require any milk 👏

I have just started making water kefir and I was trying to be a bit inventive a few batches in, I added apple, ginger and Maqui Berry Powder and surprisingly it did not go purple you can see in picture above the colour contrast to the “standard” (right hand side) versus Maqui flavoured (left hand side) - it’s red 👏

Water kefir has been relished by our children also, they think it’s a treat as it’s a bubbly drink but also full of goodness.

Water kefir description taken from healthline for those that haven’t heard of it:

“Water kefir is a fermented, carbonated beverage that is produced using water kefir grains.

Also known as tibicos, California bees, Japanese water crystals and other names, water kefir is thought to have originated in the late 1800s.

Unlike regular kefir, which is made from cow, sheep or goat milk, water kefir is made by combining sugar water with water kefir grains — a type of grain-like culture of bacteria and yeast.

The mixture is then typically fermented for 24–48 hours, producing a probiotic beverage rich in beneficial bacteria.”

A new year might bring a new you - give it a try 👏
