If you follow our social media stories you will have noted I have been building a Flowhive in the past few weeks.
I finally finished painting and oiling the hive and today was the day to collect the bees!
After a bitterly cold night and large frost - we were well and truly gifted a perfect spring day with glorious sunshine and no wind!
I travelled about 45 minutes away to a beekeeper with an established apiary and calm bees. We suited up and they showed me their thriving hives. They had prepared a package box and relocated the bees from their hive into it for me to transport the bees back home.
I travelled excitedly home where I was greeted by excited family also. This day has been something we have talked about for months.
After much indecision over past few months, I finally decided to paint the roof of the hive purple and put tung oil on the body.
Purple is a favourite colour for the bees which is perfectly aligned with our business colour theme.
The hive is situated a short flight (a few metres) away from our Maqui Berry bush plot. I hope they enjoy the berry flowers as much as we enjoy the fruit.
I am nervously excited for the coming weeks to see how they settle and establish themselves! Stay tuned to hear all about it 🐝❤️
